Designeer User Guide

Welcome to Designeer, a versatile drawing and design tool. Below is a comprehensive guide to its features, controls, and tips. Use the sections to navigate.

Basic Controls

  • Mouse Button: Use the selected tool to draw or apply stamps.
  • Ctrl + Mouse Wheel: Zoom in/out on the canvas.
  • Middle Mouse Button + Drag: Pan the canvas.
  • U Key: Undo the last action.
  • H Key: Recenter the canvas (reset zoom and pan).
  • T Key (while holding a tool): Create a reference dot at the cursor position.
  • F Key: Perform a flood fill regardless of the current tool (uses the fill color).
  • Escape Key: Cancel current panning or drawing action.

Path Offset

Switch between Center, Left, or Right offset for lines and strokes. Left/Right fills one side of the path for finer lines (useful for precise edging).

Measure Tools

  • Imperial/Metric Measure: Draws a line and displays length in chosen units.
  • Angle Measure: Draws a line and displays the angle from horizontal.
  • M Key: Flip the measurement text to the opposite side of the line.
  • W/S Keys: Move the text closer/farther from the line.

Stamp Tools

  • A/D Keys: Scale the stamp width (left/right depending on offset).
  • W/S Keys: Scale the stamp uniformly (increase/decrease size).
  • ,/. Keys: Rotate the stamp by 2.5 degrees (counterclockwise/clockwise).
  • / Key: Divide the shape in half, then quarters (cycles through modes).
  • Q/E Keys: Fine-rotate by 1 degree (counterclockwise/clockwise).
  • Solid Stamps Checkbox: Fills stamps like boxes, ovals, pyramids, and octagons solidly instead of outlining.

Octagon Stamp Specific

  • ;/' Keys: Increase or decrease the amount of sides.

Beam Stamp Specific

  • W/S Keys: Rotate by 1 degree (clockwise/counterclockwise).
  • ,/. Keys: Rotate by 2.5 degrees.
  • A/D Keys: Extend the beam outward (left/right sides).
  • Z/C Keys: Shrink the beam inward (left/right sides).

Divider Beam

  • W/S Keys: Rotate by 1 degree (clockwise/counterclockwise).
  • ,/. Keys: Rotate by 2.5 degrees.
  • A/D Keys: Extend the beam outward (left/right sides).
  • Z/C Keys: Shrink the beam inward (left/right sides).
  • / Key: Divide the beam.
  • ; Key: Reduce divisions.
  • ' Key: Hide / show the beam.
  • M Key: Number the divisions.
  • N Key: Swap side of division indicators.
  • L Key: Enter custom division increment.

Symmetry Stamping

  • Checkbox: Enable to mirror stamps.
  • Arrow Keys: Move the symmetry duplicate preview.
  • E Key: Place the current symmetry offset (add to list, up to 23).
  • R Key: Undo the last symmetry offset.

Stamp Iteration Replication Sequencer

Enter a sequence like "w s a d , . q e x" in the input field (spaces separate commands). Press X key on canvas with a stamp tool selected to apply the sequence automatically (scales/rotates and draws based on inputs).

Etcha Stamp

  • W/S(X)/A/D Keys: Move up/down/left/right.
  • Q/E/Z/C Keys: Move diagonally (up-left/up-right/down-left/down-right).
  • R Key: Undo last move.
  • Save/Load Etcha: Users may save their etcha stamp as a txt file. Have the Etcha Tool selected when loading a saved Etcha.
  • Caps Lock: When on, direction keys move without drawing (pen up mode for gaps). When off, moves and draws connected lines.

Freehand Tool

  • Smoothing: Set level (0-5) for curve smoothing.
  • Branching: Set level (0-5) for branching effect (originated from a smoothing bug; try smoothing 0 + branching 1 for basic effect, increase for more branches).

Text Stamping

  • Checkbox: Enable to stamp text along shapes/paths.
  • Text Input: Enter custom text.
  • Font/Size: Select family and size.
  • Tips: Works with stamps; direction and rotation can be adjusted via code if needed (advanced).

Save / Load Drawing

  • Save Drawing Erase, fill and gradient fill do not work for save files. Use undo if you plan to save.

Advanced Tips

  • Canvas Focus: After switching tools click somewhere in the blank space around the canvas to bring the focus back.
  • B for Brush: Some tools like Freehand can be more comfortable to paint with the B key.
  • Layers: Switch active layer and toggle visibility for multi-layer editing.
  • Background: Upload images or set color; clear with BG- button.
  • Hotkeys for Tools: ` for square eraser, 1-9/0 for quick tool switches (see code for mappings).
  • Color Adjustments: Hold Shift and use the V/B/N keys for lightness/saturation/hue tweaks to fill color (Ctrl for decrement).
